Luzhou Yonglian Temple, Buddhist temple in Luzhou District, Taiwan
Yonglian Temple is a Buddhist temple in Luzhou District, Taiwan, that rises across three levels to house multiple prayer halls. The south-facing halls display stone carvings on pillars and doorways, colored ceiling paintings, and double-layered roof tiles arranged in a symmetrical pattern from the entrance to the main shrine.
The shrine began in 1873 as a modest structure on what was then the highest point in Luzhou and grew through multiple expansions. The growing congregation prompted several rebuilds until the building reached its current three-story form.
The name Yonglian means eternal connection between heaven and earth, reflected in the three-story halls that guide worshippers upward. Devotees light incense in the lower chambers before ascending to the upper shrines to complete their reverence.
Visitors reach the entrance from exit 1 of Sanmin Senior High School MRT station on the Luzhou Line after a five-minute walk. The halls are open to the public, and respectful behavior and modest dress are expected in all areas.
A Guanyin statue crafted from 10,000 taels of gold was inaugurated during a three-day ceremony in September 2016 and stands in one of the upper shrines. The statue draws devotees who see its extraordinary craftsmanship as a mark of devotion.
