Chen Yueji Residence

Chen Yueji Residence is a mansion in Datong District that shows how wealthy families built their homes in the late 1800s. Wooden beams, carved decorations, and multiple connected courtyards form the core structure of the building.

The house was built in 1874 during the Qing Dynasty and belonged to an influential family living in Taipei. The architecture mirrors the building style that developed on the island during that period.

The rooms reveal how wealthy families lived in the 1800s, with separate areas for different family members and formal spaces for guests. The layout and arrangement of rooms show the family's position and the customs they followed.

The residence can be viewed from outside by visitors walking through Datong District. It is best to visit in the morning to avoid crowds and see the details more clearly.

Some of the original wood carvings on the interior walls have been preserved for over 150 years and still show fine craftsmanship. These details are often hard to spot, but they tell a lot about the skill of the craftsmen who built the house.
