Tainan Longshan Temple, Buddhist temple in Longshan Village, Taiwan.
Tainan Longshan Temple is a three-story structure built with coral stone walls and traditional construction methods in Longshan Village. The interior contains Buddha statues, ritual rooms, and intricate carved and painted decorative elements throughout the halls.
The structure was built in 1715 during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty as a religious center for the area's Buddhist community. A major renovation took place in 1778 that substantially rebuilt and renewed the entire structure.
The temple serves as a gathering place for Buddhist practitioners who come to make offerings and participate in daily rituals and prayers. The decorated halls and statues inside create a space where visitors experience local religious traditions firsthand.
The temple is located in the eastern part of Tainan City and is open for visits during daylight hours, with early mornings offering the quietest experience. Wear respectful clothing and move quietly through the halls to avoid disturbing worshippers.
The temple was built outside the city walls at the East Gate, a location reflecting the trade routes and settlement patterns of that era. This positioning made it a notable landmark for travelers and merchants moving through the region.
