Niudou Bridge, Road and bicycle bridge in Datong, Taiwan
Niudou Bridge spans approximately 540 meters across the Lanyang River, connecting communities in Yilan County via Provincial Highway 7C. The structure was designed to serve both motor vehicles and cyclists and functions as a central transportation hub in the region.
Planning for the bridge began in 1963, but construction took decades to complete. The structure opened to traffic on September 18, 2010, significantly improving connectivity between the communities.
The bridge carries both cars and bicycles across the river valley today. Local residents use it daily to move between the communities on either side.
The bridge is part of Provincial Highway 7C and can be crossed on foot or by bicycle as well as by car. The best time to cross is during daylight hours when visibility is clear and the views of the river and surrounding mountains are most enjoyable.
The bridge uniquely combines two different transportation methods on a single structure, representing a practical solution to local needs. Cyclists and drivers share the same crossing over the river, making it an unusual arrangement in this part of Taiwan.
