Lala Mountain, Mountain peak in Fuxing District, Taiwan
Lala Mountain is a summit in Fuxing District rising to 1720 meters, surrounded by a protected forest reserve spanning roughly 75 hectares. The area contains over 120 ancient trees, with some exceeding 500 years of age and a few reaching back thousands of years.
The mountain once served as a strategic observation point during regional conflicts. Some of the oldest trees on the slopes were already standing long before ancient civilizations developed elsewhere.
The name comes from the Atayal language, describing the act of standing on tiptoes to peer into the distance. This meaning connects directly to what you experience when visiting, as the elevated position offers sweeping views across the surrounding landscape.
You can reach the mountain via Provincial Highway 7, with the Lalashan Visitor Information Center providing maps and trail guidance. The site is accessible year-round, though hiking is most comfortable during drier months.
The mountain's slopes are planted with fruit orchards producing honey peaches, pears, and persimmons alongside the old-growth forest. This farming presence creates an interesting blend of agriculture and natural woodland on the same slopes.
