Carp Lake, Hualien, Freshwater lake in Shoufeng Township, Taiwan.
Carp Lake is a freshwater body near Mount Liyu covering about 104 hectares with a length of roughly 1.6 kilometers. The water surface is calm and open, surrounded by green hills that create a basin where the lake sits.
The lake region was home to the Truku people, who established communities along its shores and depended on its resources. The Japanese colonial period brought significant displacement that disrupted their traditional way of living.
The lake's name refers to the carp that have lived in these waters for generations and shaped local fishing traditions. Today, visitors can see fishermen along the shore continuing this long-standing connection to the land.
The lake is roughly one hour from Hualien city and can be reached by bus or car without much difficulty. There are parking areas near the shore and pathways where visitors can walk and explore the surroundings.
A cycling route loops around the entire shoreline, allowing visitors to see mountain views and water reflections at their own pace. Along this path, travelers often spot fishermen working in the traditional way they have for generations.
