Jinzi Stele, Historic site in Ruifang District, Taiwan

The Jinzi Stele is an inscribed stone monument positioned along the Dacukeng Historic Trail, marking the landscape between Houtong village and the Jiufen mountain area. The stone serves as a navigational landmark and historical marker within a network of similar way-stones that helped people traverse and understand this region.

The stone was erected in 1867 during a period of regional growth and land development in the area. The monument has since been officially recognized for its role in documenting this formative period.

The stone carries inscriptions that show how people recorded local history and territorial markers. Such carved monuments served as public records that helped shape community identity over time.

The best way to reach this site is by taking the train from Nangang to Houtong Station, followed by a hike of several hours on clearly marked trails. Wear proper hiking shoes and bring plenty of water, as the paths are somewhat steep and shaded woodland areas offer limited relief from the sun.

Near the stone stands an abandoned coal processing facility that has been repurposed as a museum, revealing the area's industrial past. This contrast between the ancient marker and industrial structures tells the story of how this region transformed over time.
