Luodong Forestry Culture Park, Forestry heritage park in Luodong, Taiwan
Luodong Forestry Culture Park is a former administrative site covering 16 hectares with Japanese-style wooden buildings, steam locomotives, and historic forest railway tracks. Water gardens planted with lotus and water lilies, along with observation areas, allow visitors to explore the region's natural environment.
From 1915 to 1982, this site served as the administrative center managing timber operations from Taipingshan Forest during Taiwan's peak logging era. The long period of operations shaped the infrastructure that remains visible today.
The place shows how people once moved and processed timber through preserved rails and a basin where logs were stored and floated. Wooden structures and pathways reveal how logging shaped the identity of this region and its people.
The park has marked paths for walking and bird-watching that are easy to follow throughout the grounds. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time for leisurely exploration, as the site is spacious and rewards a slow pace.
The original timber basin in the center continues to function and provides habitat for frogs and fireflies that thrive during summer months. This quiet waterway connects the industrial past with living nature.
