Chukou Nature Center, Nature center in Fanlu Township, Taiwan
Chukou Nature Center is a nature facility in Fanlu Township that brings together different functional areas across its grounds. You will find a Tree Bank, forest ecological park, driftwood storage zones, eco-waterways, and greenhouses that demonstrate how the space integrates environmental management with public access.
The site was once a sugarcane farm operated by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation before undergoing transformation into a nature space. The Chiayi Forest District Office established the center's key facilities in 2004, marking the beginning of its current role.
The center maintains partnerships with local organizations to deliver environmental education programs and facilitate community engagement in nature preservation initiatives.
The center sits along Provincial Highway 18 about 20 minutes from Chiayi's downtown area and is accessible by road. Walking the grounds takes preparation, as paths cross uneven terrain and can become muddy in wet weather.
The Green-Eco House on the grounds holds a gold-class certificate for green building standards. This building demonstrates how environmental responsibility translates into the actual construction and design choices made for the facility.
