Bamboo Curtain Studio, Art gallery and alternative exhibition space in Tamsui, Taiwan
Bamboo Curtain Studio is an art center and experimental exhibition space along the Tamsui riverside featuring galleries, workshops, and artist residency rooms. The facility spreads across the waterfront with both indoor exhibition areas and outdoor spaces including stages, courtyards, and gardens designed to host diverse artistic practices.
Hsiao Li-Hung founded the studio in 1995 as a space for artistic experimentation and cultural exchange. It later became a registered non-profit organization in 2011, formalizing its role in supporting contemporary artistic practice.
The studio functions as a hub where artists from different backgrounds work together through its residency program. Visitors can observe how visual art, installation, sculpture, and performance merge in this working creative space through its regular exhibitions and workshops.
The studio is accessible on foot from Zhuwei Station by following the road parallel to the subway toward the waterfront. The outdoor spaces with gardens and plazas are freely accessible, while the indoor exhibition areas may have varying conditions depending on current shows.
The site includes a community kitchen where artists and visitors collaborate on shared meals and creative projects. This unusual feature blends artistic work with everyday social experiences, creating organic encounters between the resident artists and local people.
