The structure was designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners and built between 2010 and 2013. Its completion marked an important step in the modern development of the Tamsui district.
The building goes by both an English name and a Chinese name, Water Cube, which reflects how modern Taiwanese cities blend two languages in their everyday spaces.
