Former British Merchant Warehouse, Historical warehouse in Tamsui, Taiwan
The Former British Merchant Warehouse stands as a restored building next to Tamsui MRT Station, featuring traditional architecture and exhibition spaces within its walls.
Shell Oil Company transformed the original tea storage facility into four large warehouses with oil tanks, until American forces bombed the structure in 1944.
The building represents the intersection of British colonial trade, local commerce, and industrial development through its transformation from tea storage to petroleum facilities.
Visitors can explore the warehouse Tuesday through Sunday between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM, with free admission and guided tours available upon request.
After burning for three consecutive days during World War II, the partially destroyed structure maintained its role as a backup storage facility before becoming a cultural center.
