Tamsui Japanese Police Officer Dormitory, Colonial-era police residence in Tamsui, Taiwan
The wooden building features traditional Japanese architectural elements, including horizontal sliding windows and a fusion of Eastern and Western design styles throughout its 73-square-meter structure.
The residence, constructed in 1921 after the establishment of Tamsui District, served as housing for multiple Japanese police chiefs until 1945 during Taiwan's colonial period.
The interior space contains a specially widened corridor for dancing, reflecting the personal interests of a former police chief and the integration of social activities.
Visitors can reach the dormitory by taking an 8-minute walk from Tamsui Metro Station, with opening hours from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays and until 6:00 PM on weekends.
The building includes an underground air raid shelter in the backyard, constructed during World War II as protection against potential bombing attacks.
