The Huwei Hunan Martyrs Ancient Tomb is a burial site containing six graves arranged in a triangular pattern on a hillside. The gravestones are carved from stone quarried at Guanyin Mountain and sit near Zhongzheng East Road.
In 1881, six soldiers from Hunan Province who served in the Zhusheng Left Camp under General Sun Kai-hua were buried at this location. This burial marks an important moment in the area's military history during that era.
The gravestones were inscribed by fellow soldiers rather than professional stonemasons, reflecting the bonds between these men. This personal touch turns each stone into a testament of military brotherhood.
The tomb site is accessible to visitors and is managed by the New Taipei City Tamsui Historical Museum. The best time to visit is during the museum's regular hours of operation.
Despite their age, the gravestones have retained their handwritten inscriptions made by soldiers' hands. This authenticity makes them rare historical documents from that period.
