Tamsui District, Administrative district in New Taipei, Taiwan

Tamsuí District is an administrative area on the northern coastal zone of Taiwan, where the river meets the sea. The territory includes residential neighborhoods, harbor zones and hilly land overlooking the water.

In the 19th century this coastal spot grew into Taiwan's largest port, exporting tea, camphor and sulfur. Administration under the imperial Qing dynasty controlled the trade and opened gates to western merchants.

The red fort displays laterite bricks from the 17th century, chosen by the Spanish for fortress construction. Beside it stand wooden houses built by local hands, with open roofs and courtyard layouts.

The metro red line connects travelers directly to the main area, with stations located near residential neighborhoods and the coast. It is best on foot along the center and the waterfront walkway, because points are close together.

The area has a lively fish market atmosphere, where vendors sell fresh fish and seafood daily. Visitors observe traditional trading practices in a modern coastal setting that still reflects the local rhythm.
