Beitou Puji Temple, Buddhist temple in Linquan Village, Taipei, Taiwan
Beitou Puji Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary in Linquan Village that features hand-carved wooden details and ornamental work throughout. The main hall is constructed entirely from premium Taiwanese cypress wood and has tatami mats covering the floor.
The temple was established in 1905 as Tetsu-Shin-In during the Japanese colonial period. It received its current name in 1949 and gained official protection as a municipal monument in 1998.
The temple blends Japanese Shingon Buddhist elements with Taiwanese design traditions, visible in how the wooden structural parts are shaped and arranged. This mix shows how different religious practices found their way into the building's appearance.
The temple sits about 15 minutes on foot from Xinbeitou MRT station. Visitors need to remove their shoes before entering the main hall.
The temple houses a statue of Guanyin, the goddess of compassion, that is normally kept out of sight. The statue is revealed to visitors only once each year during an annual cleaning ceremony.
