Chiayi City Jiaxing Temple

Chiayi City Jiaxing Temple is a structure with traditional Chinese design features, including double roofs with curved ridges and detailed mosaic decorations covering the exterior. The interior spaces contain carved panels and ornamental details typical of religious buildings from this period.

The temple was built in 1715 during the Qing Dynasty when a local administrator established it as a spiritual center for the community. It later received imperial recognition after a significant event in 1887 that highlighted its religious importance.

The wall carvings show local stories through relief sculptures that visitors notice while walking through the halls. An eight-sided coffered ceiling decorated with figurines creates a distinctive spiritual atmosphere inside the building.

The location sits on a busy street in the eastern part of the city and is easy to reach on foot if you are in the nearby area. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be ready to climb narrow staircases, especially if exploring the upper sections.

The building holds an elaborate processional palanquin carved from wood with eight lions displayed on its surface, used only during special religious celebrations. The craftsmanship and carving of this portable structure comes from a local art tradition that is rarely practiced today.
