Old House of Su Family, Taiye

The Old House of Su Family is a traditional residence with more than fifty rooms spread across 4,000 square meters, built using wooden and brick construction methods. The layout shows how a large family organized different areas for living, cooking, and spiritual practice within one interconnected structure.

The house dates from the Qing Dynasty and served as an important gathering place for village meetings and family events over many generations. Its survival shows how this location remained central to community life across centuries.

The living spaces show traditional altars with memorial tablets and small shrine rooms that reflect how the family honored their ancestors across generations. Walking through these rooms gives a sense of how family bonds and respect for the past shaped daily life here.

Visit during daytime when natural light illuminates the interior rooms and makes exploration easier. The site is walkable on foot, though comfortable shoes are recommended since some areas have uneven flooring.

The house contains original antique furnishings like an eight-legged bed and a stone mill that show how people actually lived and worked in past times. These objects remain in place, giving visitors a direct look at the practical items families depended on daily.
