Chortovi Skeli is a protected forest reserve featuring sandstone rock formations spread across 353 hectares in Lviv Oblast near Lysynychi village. These natural cliffs rise prominently above the surrounding woodland, creating distinctive geological structures that define the landscape.
The site preserves traces of a Paleolithic hunter's camp alongside remains of a medieval watchtower built during King Daniel's reign. These two periods reveal how the rock formations have been used by people across thousands of years.
The rock formations carry the name Devil's Rocks, rooted in local folklore and stories passed down through the generations in this region. Visitors come to understand how these tales shape the way people connect with the natural landscape.
The reserve is accessible by bus routes 29 or 40 from Lviv city center, with a journey time of around 25 minutes. Bring sturdy footwear since trails can be uneven and steep in places throughout the site.
The site offers multiple climbing routes on the rock formations for visitors of different skill levels. A natural spring nearby draws people seeking refreshing activities within this forested area.
