Shevchenkivskyi Hai Park Museum, Open-air folk museum in Lviv, Ukraine
Shevchenkivskyi Hai Park Museum is an open-air museum with around 120 authentic buildings from different Ukrainian regions, including homes, churches, mills, and farm structures. The buildings spread across a large area and display the varying construction styles of these different parts of the country.
The museum's creation began in the 1930s when Hilarion Sventsitsky took the initiative to gather and preserve rural architecture. It formally opened to the public in 1971 and has since become an important place for keeping these building traditions alive.
The separate villages show how different Ukrainian regions built their homes and what crafts were common in each area. You can see today how people in those places lived and worked through the way buildings are arranged and furnished.
The museum grounds are large, so comfortable shoes are important for enjoying your visit. Guided tours help explain the history and purpose of individual buildings, while hands-on demonstrations show traditional crafts and techniques.
The museum houses one of the world's largest collections of ancient wooden religious buildings, many with intricate details and craftsmanship. These structures show artistic traditions and skilled techniques that are difficult to find elsewhere.
