Church of Saint Anthony, Lviv

The Church of Saint Anthony is a Baroque Catholic building with a rectangular nave and side chapels flanking the main space. The interior features pilasters, stone balustrades, and painted decorations, while decorative staircases, a bell tower, and statues in Rococo style add visual richness to the design.

The church was constructed in 1718 under the design of architect Paul Anthony Fontana, reflecting the Baroque style of that era. It survived the Soviet years and continued its religious purpose while many other buildings in the city were repurposed or converted.

The Franciscan community continues its religious services here, keeping Catholic worship alive through the seasons. Visitors can sense how the space remains central to the spiritual life of the local faithful.

The building stands out clearly in the urban landscape and its architectural elements can be observed from the public plaza. Keep in mind this is an active place of worship, so visiting outside of service times is generally better for a peaceful look around.

The front facade displays decorative vases positioned at the pediment corners and Ionic pilasters that showcase the grandeur of 18th-century European religious design. These architectural touches are easy to miss but reveal the craftsmanship invested in the building's details.
