St Peter and Paul church, Lviv

St Peter and Paul is a three-nave basilica with an impressive front facade featuring paired pilasters, baroque volutes, and a high gabled roof crowned by a prominent spire. The brick structure sits in the city center and displays characteristic baroque forms in every detail of its exterior.

Construction began in 1610 under architects Sebastian Lachmius and Giacomo Briano, who drew inspiration from Rome's Church of the Gesù design principles. This early building phase established the baroque structure that stands today.

The interior walls feature ornate stucco work and painted decorations that draw the eye as you move through the space. These crafted details shape how visitors experience the place during their time here.

The building sits on Teatralna Street in the historic center of the city and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should remember this is an active religious site, so respectful behavior during a visit is important.

The south wall contains decorative elements that surprisingly feature profiles of clowns and parrots mixed among stone volutes and flower petals. This playful and humorous touch is an unexpected break from the otherwise serious baroque decoration.
