Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Administrative region in western Ukraine
The region spans 20,600 square kilometers between Podolia and Volhynia, featuring rolling uplands, 120 rivers, and extensive agricultural lands.
The territory underwent administrative changes in 1937 when it was established as Kamianets-Podilskyi Oblast, later changing its capital and name to Khmelnytskyi in 1954.
The region preserves numerous medieval fortifications, including castles in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Mezhybizh, and Sataniv, representing centuries of architectural development.
The oblast contains three administrative districts, thirteen cities, and 1,417 villages, with the Khmelnyts'ka nuclear power plant contributing to regional energy production.
Archaeological findings near Vrublivtsi village revealed a 300,000-year-old Paleolithic settlement, marking the earliest human presence in the region.
