Antonivka, Suburban settlement in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine
Antonivka is an urban-type settlement on the right bank of the Dnieper River, in Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine. It is made up of residential areas, industrial zones, and open green patches spread across a flat river valley.
The settlement was founded in 1822 by migrants who came from the Poltava region to settle in southern Ukraine. Over the following decades, it grew as farming took hold in the river valley and small industries began to appear.
The name Antonivka comes from the Slavic given name Anton, following a common naming tradition in this part of Ukraine. Along the main streets, small shops, open-air stands, and community spaces give a sense of how daily life is organized here.
Antonivka sits close to the M17 and M14 highways, which connect it to other parts of southern Ukraine. Basic services and local shops are found along the main streets, making it easy to get what you need during a visit.
The local glassworks factory is one of the few in the region that still combines traditional glassblowing methods with modern production lines. This makes Antonivka an unusual industrial site for a settlement of its size.
