Kherson TV Tower, Television tower near Suvorovsky district, Kherson, Ukraine
The Kherson TV Tower is a steel lattice communications structure located near the Suvorovsky district that reaches approximately 200 meters tall. Its design incorporates rectangular openings throughout the frame instead of the triangular bracing typical of similar towers across the region.
Construction of this broadcasting facility took place from 1991 to 2005, coinciding with Ukraine's infrastructure development after independence. Russian forces destroyed it during their withdrawal in November 2022, cutting off radio and television service to the wider region.
The tower served as a central media distribution point for the region, connecting local communities through television and radio broadcasts.
The tower is not accessible to visitors as it was destroyed and remains unstable. It can only be viewed from a distance, and access to the site is restricted for safety reasons.
The structure uses a Vierendeel truss system, which differs from the standard triangulated designs commonly found across Eastern Europe. This type of frame design was an innovative choice for achieving both height and structural stability at the time of construction.
