Velykyi Verkh

Velykyi Verkh is a mountain summit in the Carpathian range located in Transcarpathia. This peak rises to 1,598 meters and can be reached via marked hiking trails that pass through forested slopes and alpine meadows.

The mountain formed as a natural boundary between different regions of Transcarpathia through geographic development. Its location made it an important reference point for travelers and communities throughout the area's history.

Local mountain communities maintain traditional shepherding practices on the slopes of Velykyi Verkh, continuing centuries-old methods of livestock management.

Visitors should wear sturdy hiking boots and weather-appropriate clothing, as conditions at the top can change quickly. The climb takes several hours, so starting early in the day and bringing plenty of water are practical considerations for any trip.

This peak ranks as the second highest summit in the Polonyna Borzhava range and offers views that span across multiple administrative regions. On clear days, hikers can see across vast stretches of terrain in different directions at once.
