Shypit

Shypit is a waterfall with multiple cascades that drop over rocky formations at the foot of Mount Hemba, surrounded by forest. The water flows through stratified rock layers, creating a natural series of drops and pools.

The falls formed through the erosion of Paleogene rock layers made of sandstone and gravel with thin shale bands. These geological processes shaped the cascading structure over thousands of years.

The name comes from a Ukrainian word meaning 'whisper', referencing local stories about water carrying voices through mountain valleys. This connection shapes how visitors experience and talk about the place today.

The falls are accessible via marked trails from Pylypets village and offer routes suitable for different fitness levels. The forest path can be slippery after rain, so sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.

During winter, sections of the waterfall freeze while water streams continue flowing, creating striking combinations of ice and moving water. This seasonal transformation makes the site equally interesting to visit in cold months.
