The State Archive of Zaporizhzhia Oblast occupies two buildings in the city and holds nearly 2 million personal files from more than 7,700 collections. The materials span from 1774 to 2008 and include an extensive photographic record from this period.
The institution began as the Zaporizhzhia State Historical Archive between 1932 and 1939 and went through several name changes. It received its current name in 1980.
The archive holds documents from before Soviet times that show what life was like in the Alexandrovsky and Mariupol districts. These records offer a window into everyday conditions and how people lived in this historical region.
The reading room is open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 16, with a lunch break from 12 to 13. Visitors should register ahead of time if they want to access documents.
The facility houses a reference library with more than 12,000 books and pamphlets. The photo collection also contains thousands of images that document regional life across more than a century.
