Parkovyi footbridge in Kyiv

The Parkovyi footbridge crosses the Dnipro River to link central Kyiv with Trukhaniv Island through designated pedestrian and cycling paths. The structure spans roughly 430 meters and rises high enough above water to allow river traffic to pass beneath.

Construction of this steel bridge started in 1956 as part of Soviet urban planning that emphasized public recreation over military strategy. The project reflected a shift toward viewing cities as places for leisure and movement rather than purely functional spaces.

The bridge serves as a gathering place where people stroll, take photographs, and linger to enjoy views across the water and cityscape. These moments of shared leisure have made it a natural meeting point woven into daily life.
