Basilian monastery in Chervonohrad, Baroque monastery in Chervonohrad, Ukraine.
The Basilian Monastery with Church of Saint George displays late baroque architecture with classical elements throughout its main buildings and adjacent structures. The complex comprises multiple buildings that together form the original monastic layout.
The complex was founded in 1763 by Polish nobleman Franciszek Salezy Potocki and built between 1771 and 1776 by Bohemian architect Johan Kasper Selner. This founding period shaped its architectural form, which has remained intact to the present day.
This monastery belongs to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and preserves the traditions of the Basilian Order. The spaces show active religious use today and shape the spiritual life of the local community.
The monastery is located on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street and is easily accessible from the town center. The complex is open to the public and welcomes occasional visitors, especially during religious services.
From 1980 to 1989, the monastery cells served as an art gallery branch of the Lviv Museum of History of Religion and Atheism. This unusual dual purpose during that period is today largely forgotten by visitors.
