Strimba

Strimba is a mountain summit in the Transcarpathian region with a height of about 1700 meters, featuring fine-grained sandstone formations and deep catchment funnels across its surface. The peak displays distinctive triangular structures shaped by natural erosion over time.

The mountain became part of Synevyr National Nature Park in recent decades, and received an oak cross at its peak in 2008 as a symbol of local spiritual traditions. This installation marked the site's recognition as an important landmark in the Carpathian landscape.

The area connects several traditional Carpathian villages such as Kolochava, where visitors can experience local Hutsul cuisine and traditions. The region reflects the way mountain communities have built their lives around these high forests and meadows over many generations.

The main hiking trail starts from Kolochava village and follows about 15 kilometers through beech forests and mountain meadows, with the entire journey taking about 5 hours to complete. The path is well-marked but requires sturdy footwear and moderate physical endurance for the ascent.

The eastern ridge contains an unusual high-altitude bog that supports a population of Carpathian newts living in this mountain habitat. This rare ecological feature reveals the biological diversity of the area and makes it worth observing closely during a visit.
