Vilshany Reservoir, stuwmeer in Choest, Oekraïne
Vilshany Reservoir is a water storage facility on the Tereblya River in Khust Raion, extending for over ten kilometers with a surface area of about 0.8 square kilometers. The dam is nearly fifty meters high and about 150 meters long, holding water to a maximum depth of up to eight meters.
The reservoir was built in 1955 and marks a time of major transformation in the region. The dam manages the flow of the Tereblya River and forms part of the Tereblya-Ritska hydro station, which supplies power to the area.
The reservoir is central to local life, where fishing and water-based activities are part of everyday routines for nearby communities. The dam and waterworks near Vilshany village represent how residents have adapted to living with this engineered landscape as part of their region.
The water is easily accessible in good weather, and there are calm areas for walking and viewing along the waterline. Spring and summer months offer the best visiting conditions when paths are clear and the weather is stable.
The reservoir connects to a larger water system through tunnels linking to other rivers and eventually flowing into the Danube Basin. This makes it a key junction in a regional water network that extends far beyond the immediate locality.
