Molochnyi Kamin is a cave in the Zakarpattia region that extends roughly 92 meters in length with two distinct levels. The limestone structure contains multiple passages and chambers organized in a complex arrangement underground.
Scientists discovered this cave in 1972 while finding evidence of human settlement from the Stone Age period. The artifacts showed that people used this site over an extended timespan in ancient times.
The cave's name comes from the white mineral deposits on its walls that resemble milk. These calcium-rich seeps remain visible throughout the passages today.
This cave sits within a protected reserve in the Carpathian Biosphere and requires advance permission to enter. The entrance is located within a beech forest, so visitors should wear appropriate footwear and clothing suitable for forest terrain.
Discoveries of tools and bone remains inside suggest the cave served as a dwelling site for ancient inhabitants. These findings provide insight into how early people lived in this mountainous area.
