Kharkiv Bridge, Metro bridge across Kharkiv River in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Kharkiv Bridge is a metro railway structure crossing the Kharkiv River and connecting Kyivska Station with Akademika Barabashova Station on the Saltivska Line. The structure spans approximately 980 meters and features a sealed design without windows, a necessity for the metro system's ventilation requirements.
The structure officially opened on August 10, 1984, requiring the removal of residential buildings to make way for construction. This project was a significant milestone in the development of Kharkiv's metro system.
The bridge displays a distinctive green exterior and serves as a key transportation link in Kharkiv's daily life. Residents pass through it regularly as part of their everyday commute across the city.
The bridge's interior is built without windows, so natural light is absent during the journey. Visitors should know this is a functional transit space rather than a sightseeing destination in itself.
During construction, two support pillars were installed in anticipation of a future road bridge that was never built. The Barbashova market was eventually developed where the road bridge would have crossed.
