Vorotniv, Botanical reserve in Volyn Oblast, Ukraine
Vorotniv is a botanical reserve located on forested hills in northwestern Ukraine, within the Volyn region. The site covers around 600 hectares and features distinct plant communities that can be explored through marked observation paths.
The reserve was officially established on October 28, 1974, marking the beginning of organized nature protection in this region. Its creation reflected growing awareness of the need to protect natural forest ecosystems from human impact.
The forest serves as a place where researchers and visitors come to observe how different plant communities interact with local wildlife. People visit to understand the natural world and the balance that exists between species in this protected area.
Visitors should obtain permission from the Kivertsi Forestry management office before exploring the site on designated trails. The best time to visit is during drier seasons when the paths are easier to navigate.
The reserve contains more than 900 species of higher plants, including rare varieties like forest lily that appear in Ukraine's Red Book of protected species. This diverse collection makes the site particularly important for botanical research and conservation in Eastern Europe.
