Dormition Cathedral

The Dormition Cathedral is an Orthodox house of worship in Novhorod-Siverskyi built in Ukrainian Baroque style with a central dome and ornamental features throughout. Inside, the traditional Orthodox layout guides the eye toward the altar, with religious imagery and prayer spaces arranged according to ecclesiastical tradition.

The structure was originally founded in 1160 and underwent major restoration work between 1896 and 1900 to preserve its structural integrity. This late 19th-century reconstruction shaped the building's appearance as visitors see it today.

The cathedral remains a functioning place of Orthodox worship where local believers gather for services and religious observances. Visitors experience the rhythm of traditional prayer and the spiritual life that continues within its walls today.

The cathedral welcomes visitors but it is best to check opening hours beforehand since it remains an active worship space. Appropriate dress and respectful behavior are expected when entering a sacred place of prayer.

The bell tower holds twelve bells that ring for different services, each with its own tone and purpose in the worship routine. A large clock face installed in the 19th century sits prominently on the tower and has marked time for the city for generations.
