Kropyvnytskyi Raion, Administrative district in Kirovohrad Oblast, Ukraine.
Kropyvnytskyi Raion is an administrative district in Kirovohrad Oblast, in central Ukraine. It covers a mix of rural communities, small towns, and farming land across the Inhul River basin.
The district received its current name in November 2018 under Ukrainian decommunization laws, which required renaming places tied to the Soviet era. In 2020, a nationwide administrative reform merged several smaller districts into one larger unit.
The district takes its name from Marko Kropyvnytsky, a 19th-century Ukrainian playwright who helped shape modern Ukrainian theater. Travelers passing through the area may notice his name on local streets and public spaces.
A private vehicle is the most practical way to move between the different settlements in the district. Conditions and accessibility can vary a lot from one area to another, so checking local information before heading out is a good idea.
Marko Kropyvnytsky, who gave the district its name, was not only a playwright but also an actor and director who often performed in his own plays. He wrote and staged his works in Ukrainian at a time when the language was heavily restricted under Russian rule.
