Church of the Dormition in Mariupol

The Church of the Dormition was a brick building with traditional Orthodox architectural features that defined Mariupol's religious landscape. The structure followed classical design principles of this church tradition with recognizable elements such as domes and decorative details.

Architect Victor Nilsen designed the building and oversaw its construction between 1880 and 1887, but it was demolished just under 50 years later. The destruction occurred during a period when the Soviet government systematically dismantled religious institutions.
