8 Canada Square, Office skyscraper in Canary Wharf, England
The glass exterior of 8 Canada Square rises 199.51 meters into the London skyline, featuring 45 floors above ground and 4 floors below ground level.
Foster and Partners completed this modern architectural structure in 2002, establishing it as the global headquarters for HSBC Holdings banking corporation.
The twin bronze lion sculptures, Stephen and Stitt, guard the main entrance of the building, following a Chinese banking tradition for protection and prosperity.
The building contains 36 elevators to transport employees and visitors throughout its floors, with the first three levels dedicated to trading operations.
Spanish property company Metrovacesa purchased the building in 2007 for over £1 billion, making it the first British building to reach this price point.
