Millennium Station, Railway terminal in Loop District, Chicago, United States
Millennium Station is an underground railway terminal in Chicago's Loop District with six platforms and twelve tracks across two levels. It serves both the Metra Electric District and South Shore Line, connecting regional rail services with local transit options.
The station opened in 1856 as Randolph Street Terminal under Illinois Central Railroad management. It received its present name following major renovations in the early 2000s.
The station connects to Chicago's Pedway system, creating underground passages to hotels, shops, and office buildings throughout downtown. Visitors and commuters use these routes to move around the city without facing weather above ground.
The station operates daily from 5 AM to 11:50 PM and has ticket machines at the South Water Street entrance. Multiple CTA bus routes connect directly from the station, making it easy to continue to other neighborhoods.
The station handles up to one train departure every 30 seconds during rush hours and processes over 18,000 passengers each weekday. This high frequency makes it one of the city's busiest underground rail facilities.
