The Heritage at Millennium Park, Residential skyscraper near Millennium Park, Chicago, United States
The Heritage at Millennium Park is a residential skyscraper in downtown Chicago, standing about 630 feet (192 m) tall across 57 floors. The tower is built with glass and steel and holds around 250 apartments, many of which have large windows designed to take in city views.
The tower opened in 2005, during a period when Chicago was actively redeveloping parts of the Loop district. During construction, the project saved and attached facades from older buildings that previously stood on the same block.
At street level, the tower keeps four original facades from earlier buildings that stood on this block, and passersby can clearly see where old stone meets new glass. Walking past, you get a sense of how the street once looked before the area was redeveloped.
The tower is best seen from the surrounding sidewalks and nearby parks, as there is no public interior to visit. The area around it connects easily to Millennium Park and Grant Park, so it fits naturally into a walk through this part of downtown.
The base of the building connects to Chicago's pedway, an underground network of tunnels and enclosed walkways that link many buildings in the Loop. In winter, this means you can walk from here to a number of other destinations downtown without ever stepping outside into the cold.
