Joffrey Tower, Skyscraper on State Street and Randolph Street, Chicago, United States
Joffrey Tower is a modern skyscraper with a glass and steel design located in downtown Chicago at State Street and Randolph Street. The 31-story building integrates retail space on the first two floors, dance facilities from floors three through eight, and residential condominiums from the ninth floor upward.
The site previously held the Chicago Masonic Temple, which stood as the city's tallest building before being demolished. The current tower was constructed in 2008 as a modern replacement on this historically significant location.
The building serves as home to the Joffrey Ballet, housing multiple rehearsal studios including one named after company co-founder Gerald Arpino. Dancers train in spaces shaped by decades of artistic tradition and movement.
The tower is located at a major downtown intersection with good transit access and is easy to reach on foot. Ground-level retail areas are publicly accessible, while the upper dance and residential floors are private spaces.
The main rehearsal spaces offer direct views of Block 37 and the Chicago Theatre, connecting dancers visually with the adjacent entertainment district. This vantage point makes training in the studios a window into the cultural energy of the surrounding neighborhood.
