Goodman Theatre, Professional theater in Chicago Loop district, US.
Goodman Theatre is a professional theater in the Loop district of Chicago and houses two stages within a building of roughly 171,000 square feet. The Albert Theatre seats 856 people, while the smaller Owen Theatre accommodates 350 guests.
The theater opened in 1925 thanks to a donation by William O. Goodman in memory of his son Kenneth Sawyer Goodman, initially as part of the Art Institute of Chicago. It later moved to its current building in the Loop and grew into an independent institution.
Audiences come here for classic plays as well as new American works, while a holiday production of A Christmas Carol continues the house tradition each winter season. Performances draw a mix of locals and travelers who value the range of dramatic offerings on both stages.
The venue offers discounted parking for visitors and sits within easy reach in the downtown theater district with access to public transit. Tickets can be reserved in advance, especially for popular performances during the season.
Chicago received more Regional Theatre Tony Awards than any other city, and this venue was one of four honored theaters in 1992. The award recognizes outstanding work outside New York and highlights the importance of the local theater scene.
