77 West Wacker Drive, Postmodern office building in Chicago Loop, United States.
77 West Wacker Drive is an office building in Chicago's downtown core with 49 floors and a height of 204 m. Its facade combines glass and granite, framed by columns and surfaces of Portuguese white granite.
The building was completed in 1992 and initially served as headquarters for RR Donnelley. In 2007, United Airlines took over the building as its new corporate center.
The interior blends classical Greek elements with modern design, visible in the Thassos marble walls and white oak coffered ceilings. This mix creates a formal atmosphere that visitors sense when entering the space.
The building sits centrally and offers direct access to several Chicago Transit Authority bus lines as well as connections to the Clark/Lake and State/Lake L stations. This location makes it easy to reach by public transit from anywhere in the city.
The ground floor features an 18 m-high atrium that combines modern architectural elements with classical design principles. This open space offers a surprising contrast to the densely built environment of the downtown area.
