WOI Tower

The WOI Tower is a 609.6 meter steel structure near Alleman that transmits radio and television signals across central Iowa. This transmission facility serves the Des Moines metropolitan area and surrounding communities with broadcast coverage.

The tower was built to support WOI-TV, which launched in 1950 as Iowa's second television station and the first broadcaster owned by an educational institution. This project at Iowa State University pioneered educational broadcasting in the state.
