Lakewood

Lakewood is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, located directly west of Cleveland. It runs along the southern shore of Lake Erie with a tight grid of streets lined by homes, shops, and local businesses.

The area was once inhabited by Native American groups before European settlers arrived and formed a village in 1889. Streetcar lines introduced in the 1890s triggered rapid development and filled the land with homes and businesses.

The Beck Center for the Arts functions as a central performance venue, offering theater productions, art exhibitions, and educational programs throughout the year.

Most facilities and shops are within walking distance of each other because the street grid is tightly laid out. Public amenities like libraries and parks are spread throughout and easy to reach on foot or by car.

The city has one of the highest population densities in Ohio because many homes and apartment buildings are packed into a relatively small area. Despite the density, several parks offer direct access to the lake shore.
