Merrillville

Merrillville is a town in Lake County, Indiana, located at the intersection of U.S. Route 30 and Interstate 65. The commercial center features numerous retail shops, office buildings, and business establishments that shape the town's appearance.

The area was founded in 1834 as McGwinn Village and served as a ceremonial site for Potawatomi and Miami tribes before European settlers arrived. Following European colonization, the settlement evolved from an agricultural center into a suburban community.

The town transformed from an agricultural community into a suburban center following significant demographic changes and population movements from neighboring industrial cities.

The town is easily accessible by car via Interstate 65 and U.S. Route 30, providing quick connections to surrounding areas. Public transportation through Barons Bus Lines connects residents to neighboring regions.

Fifteen Native American trails once intersected through this region, connecting various villages and tribal territories. The Sauk Trail, one of the most significant of these routes, extended from Indiana into Illinois.
