Barney Sablotney House
Barney Sablotney House, Historic residence in Gary, Indiana, United States.
The Barney Sablotney House is a two-and-a-half-story residence in Gary with a distinctive facade of yellow glazed brick throughout its exterior. The building features a symmetrical layout with one-story wings extending from both sides of the main structure.
The house was built in 1928 under architect John Largura's direction following the Colonial Revival style that was popular at the time. It earned National Register status in 2012 for its architectural importance.
The residence shows how prosperous families lived during Gary's industrial boom, reflecting the wealth that factories and steel mills brought to the city. The yellow brick and careful design reveal that the owner valued quality and appearance.
The house sits in an established residential neighborhood of Gary and is easily accessible on foot when approaching the property. Visitors should know it is a private residence, so viewing is limited to the exterior of the structure.
The yellow glazed brick surface is uncommon for this type of building and gives the house a distinctive appearance among the surrounding homes. This special brick treatment was a sign of wealth and artistic taste in the 1920s.
