Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, International airport in Fort Snelling, United States.
Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport is a large airport in the Fort Snelling military area, consisting of two terminals with a total of 131 gates. The facilities are distributed across multiple concourses and serve both domestic and international connections.
The airport opened in 1923 as Speedway Field on a former racetrack site. The renaming to Wold-Chamberlain Field came later to honor two Minnesota aviators who fell in World War I.
After renovations in recent years, the airport now includes breweries and restaurants from Minnesota, where visitors can try local fish dishes and game. The name honors two officers from World War I, Ernest Groves Wold and Cyrus Foss Chamberlain.
A light rail line connects both terminals to downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America in under half an hour. The stations are located on the lower levels of the terminals, with trains running frequently during the day.
In 2023, the airport received the worldwide award for punctuality among international airports, with arrival and departure rates exceeding 84 percent. This figure demonstrates the reliability of operations despite winter weather conditions.
