Boulder Dash, Wooden roller coaster at Lake Compounce, Bristol, Connecticut, US
Boulder Dash is a wooden roller coaster at Lake Compounce that twists through 1,440 meters of forested mountain terrain. The ride reaches speeds around 60 miles per hour with steep drops and sharp turns carved between the trees.
The ride opened in May 2000 as a major investment to reverse declining visitor numbers at the park. This project marked a turning point for Lake Compounce's future direction.
The roller coaster earned recognition from Amusement Today as the world's best wooden roller coaster in 2004 and maintained top rankings from 2013 to 2016.
Visitors must be at least 48 inches tall to ride this coaster. On-ride photos are available for purchase at a souvenir stand near the exit.
In 2023, the coaster received upgrades with over 580 meters of steel track, while keeping its original wooden structure. This blend of traditional design and modern engineering makes it stand out among similar rides.
